Peru

"…I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you or rather so that we might be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith…"

~Romans 1:11-12

Our partnership in Peru was born out of a call to learn, care and partner more directly with people in a “two-thirds world,” developing country. Over the past 10 years, over 60 people of the Broad Street community have visited partners in Peru and a significant number of Peruvians have visited us.

Through the Joining Hands Against Hunger program of the Presbyterian Church (USA),we work with a Peruvian network of non-governmental (NGOs) and faith organizations. Together we are addressing root causes of poverty: injustice, inequity and lack of human dignity; and promoting self-sufficiency in poor and marginalized groups. We have learned about fair trade, reckless contamination of air, soil and water and how, together, networks of determined people can change their own situations.

This partnership has brought an immense amount of purpose to our community, connecting with others in Peru, offering them help when they ask for it and providing us with an opportunity to receive hospitality when we visit. On all sides, people, relationships, businesses and self sufficiency have bloomed.
