Broad Street Presbyterian Church

Sunday Worship 8:45 and 10:00 AM

Child Care

Starting in 1982 Broad St. Infant and Toddler Center (BIT-C) opened to serve neighborhood families, allowing parents to work by providing daily child care on a sliding payment scale.

The daycare was operated by the church for 14 years, then in 2006, merged with Columbus Early Learning Center (CELC). This childcare center is still housed in our building, and continues in service to our community.

Columbus Early Learning Centers' Commitment to Children

Mission

Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC) provides innovative, quality early childhood education that helps very young children develop the cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills needed for kindergarten readiness.

Vision

Columbus Early Learning Centers will be the leader in developing strategies to increase access to quality early education for all children and using creative programming, evidenced-based curriculum and parent engagement to help very young children develop a life-long love of learning.

What is Columbus Early Learning Centers?

CELC is a non-profit early childhood education provider serving more than 300 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years old through four nationally accredited, urban centers – Eastside, Westside, Northside and Broad Street Infant & Toddler Centers.  All Centers have been recognized by the State of Ohio’s Step Up to Quality program for excellence in curriculum and professional development.  Our programs address the need for enriched early learning experiences that should be available to children of all economic and ethnic backgrounds and the need for more innovative solutions to address the needs of at-risk children.

Founded in 1887 as the Oak Street Day Nursery, CELC is the oldest early childhood education agency in Franklin County and has a rich history and successful record of meeting the profound and changing needs of at-risk children.

For 124 years, Columbus Early Learning Centers has stepped up to address the issues of the most vulnerable children in the city of Columbus – our history, in fact, mirrors that of the city and we are highly regarded for our well- grounded, creative approaches to the complex issue of preparing children for success in school.

What makes CELC distinctive?

CELC is unique in its longevity and progressive approach to offering high quality early childhood education.
•    We provide creative classroom environments, unique mix of enrichment activities, evidenced-based curriculum and parent engagement that helps each child develop her individual talents, develop age-appropriate skills and learn about the world and the wonderful challenges it offers.
•    We have created programs – Magic in Movement with BalletMet; Grow Me Strong & Healthy Nutrition Education with Abbott Nutrition and Franklin Park Conservatory; Poetry Power – Using Writing to Learn to Read with the Ohio Arts Council; Science Education with COSI and the Infant/Toddler Program Expansion – increasing the number of infant and toddler spaces available in our centers with support from United Way of Central Ohio, PNC, the Ohio Children’s Foundation and Kiwanis of Columbus – that open new ways for children to learn the skills they need for kindergarten readiness;  add to the teachers’ creative tool box and provide more convenient and more accessible services for families.
