COMPASS Homelessness Prevention

Contact COMPASS at 614-463-9612.

Since 1982, COMPASS, Congregational Outreach Ministries Program of Assistance & Social Service has been a partnership with over 20 area churches and other groups.

COMPASS  fills a unique role, working to prevent people from becoming homeless by helping them find the means to stay in their homes. COMPASS helps people meet acute and immediate needs that cannot be resolved adequately or quickly enough by existing public programs. After meeting with an individual or a family, a professional social worker may provide referrals or funds as available, assisting with counseling, housing, rent, or utilities.

Preventing homelessness is crucial. Once someone becomes homeless, starting over can be especially difficult since credit is damaged, deposits for an apartment and utilities may be hard to save, and basic household items may be lost.

·         38 clients with AEP Neighbor to Neighbor funds of $8,830.

·         445 households with diapers or household goods.

·         16 clients thru Emergency Food and Shelter Program of FEMA

Yet MANY of the 14,232 requests for assistance couldn’t be answered.
