There are many ways we advocate for those on the margins and promote justice and peace. At BSPC, we don’t just want to treat the symptoms, like hunger or homelessness… we hope to spur change, so no one will be hungry and everyone will have enough. We know change can be complex, yet we consider it faithful to wrestle with how we best create God’s Kingdom on earth.
When issues arise that we believe are important to consider as people of faith, we convene expert panels, circulate petitions, write letters, make phone calls. Over time these have included civil rights, community hunger, healthcare reform, the death penalty and casinos.
Members of our congregation serve on BREAD research teams and are part of its Justice Ministry Network. BREAD is a congregation-based, community-organizing group, which brings focus to particular problems in our community--crime, drugs, and neighborhood blight-- then takes action to alleviate them.
