Superbowl Sub Sale

Broad Street Presbyterian Youth will make subs for Superbowl Sunday, February 5th.  The proceeds will help fund youth summer mission trips.  This year options for subs include: Ham, Turkey, Combo, or Veggie, and for the first time ever, we will offer the option of extra meat or cheese!  Subs are $5 each, with extras at $1 each.  Bring your order forms to Broad Street by Wednesday, February 1.  Save yourself some time and print an order form here.  Subs will be ready for pickup after both services on Sunday, February 5.

Global Mission Fair

During the Valentine season, BSPC always holds its World Mission fair. During the weeks of February 5 and 12 you will find a variety of displays in the narthex showing our partnerships around the world as well as places we have served in the past. It is also a time when we invite you to support the work of our partners by giving a valentine in honor of someone you love via a monetary contribution.

On February 5th, we will be learning firsthand about the experiences of missionaries in the 20th century. Nancy and Walt Hull, Bob and Ruth Russell and Les Sauer will be joining us to talk about their families’ lives as missionaries over the past 125 years. 

On February 12th, we will talk about our work in Peru over the past 13 years, and former Young Adult Volunteer Michael Sinklier will be with us to talk about his work with JESHENI, a group of young people that our team heading down this summer with work with as well. Join us in celebrating all that our partners do around the world, shining the light of Christ.

Pizza & Prose

The group will be reading Homer’s Odyssey by Gwen Cooper. “The last thing Gwen wanted was another cat. She already had two, not to mention a phenomenally underpaying job and a recently broken heart. Then Gwen’s veterinarian called with a story about a three-week-old eyeless kitten who’d been abandoned. It was love at first sight.”  The group meets at 6:30 p.m. at Beth & Tom Stafa’s home. Dine with Nine Potluck

Enjoy dinner and conversation with the Dine with Nine bunch on Wednesday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. for the Winter Potluck.  Bring a dish to share and meet your fellow Dine with Niners for the winter and spring get-togethers.  This is a great way to get to know other Broad Street members.  All are welcome!  Please sign up on the ledge in the Narthex or contact John Offenberg at 236-8891 or joffenb503@aol.com.

Valentine's Dinner & Concert

This year we are going to pack the house and celebrate the decades Music Director Joel Mathias has been with Broad Street!  “Songs from Broadway and more!” Valentine Dinner and Concert on Thursday, February 16. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m., with the concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Dining Room.  Broadstreet Choir and Handbells and Solos and Ensemble Performances will make the night memorable. Program includes selections from West Side Story, Stop the World, I Want to Get Off, Sweet Charity and Offenbach’s “La jolie Partumeuse.”  Admission is $10 for Adult; $5 for Children under 12 or $25 for a family of four or more.  RSVP on the sign-up on the Narthex, or to Nicole Denman ndenman@bspc.org or 221-6552 by February 13.

Jessie's Farewell

Please join us as we celebrate Jessie’s transition, and share fond memories.  We will have a reception for Jessie on February 19th at 9:45 a.m. in Palmer Hall.  There will be speeches, gift-giving and fun!  Food will be provided by Amy Forrest.  Broad Street members and friends are invited to contribute to a purse that will be shared with Jessie on the 19th.  If you would like to contribute, please put “Myers gift” in the check memo by February 16.

Pancake Dinner

Mardi Gras will soon be upon us and you know what that means....it's time for pancakes from Chris's Cakes!! Please join us for the fun on Tuesday February 21, the eve of the Lenten season, when we have the traditional Shrove Tuesday Pancake and Sausage Dinner. The tossing begins at 5:30 and wraps up at 6:30. The cost is $6.00/person/$20.00 maximum per family, paid at the door. (No charge for kids 4 and under.) Friends of all ages are welcome to this casual, intergenerational event with a lot of hilarity and no program other than catching pancakes.  Look for a sign-up sheet in the Narthex or call the Church office for your reservation.

Ash Wednesday

You are invited to experience the ashes, Wednesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.  The nursery will be open, but keep in mind that all children are welcome to participate in this service and that this is a service that is meaningful and powerful to children and youth.

PW Gathering

This year the BSPW retreat will be combined with the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Scioto Valley Gathering on 2/25/12 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at BSPC.  The topic will  be "We Work for Justice and Peace."  Our combined retreat with the PW-PSV Gathering will promote camaraderie and awareness of this larger group while offering learning and spiritual opportunities for all.  It is a wonderful way to gather in worship and community.  The speakers will be:  Julia Thorne, Office of the General Assembly, Immigration Attorney and Ann Palmerton. Committee Night

Committee Night will be held Wednesday, February 29th beginning at 6:00 p.m. with dinner and conversation before the groups meet.  The cost of the meal is $8 adult and $4 child. Living the Questions

Living the Questions small group study will meet on Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m. in the parlor.  The focus in our DVD series this month will be on  "Restoring Relationships".  This session reminds us that there are three themes that shape the whole of the Biblical narrative: Bondage and Liberation, Exile and Return, Sin and Forgiveness.  Each theme represents a different facet of the human condition, but all can help us move in the direction of reconciliation, restoring relationship with one another and with God.  Come join us as we reflect on how these themes connect with the immediate needs of real people like us.

Agnes of God

Save the Date for Agnes of God! Metamorphosis Theatre Company is proud to present “Agnes of God,” from April 13-15 at Broad Street Presbyterian Church.  Show times are Friday & Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.  The play, directed by Brent Alan Burington and CJ Jamison, features Barbara Comeaux, Teri Maier, and Peggy Reasoner.
