2007 YOUNG ADULTS MISSION TRIP

New Orleans, LA

HOME     DAY TWO     DAY THREE     DAY FOUR     DAY FIVE

THE TRIP STARTS - THE BIG DRIVE

The very early morning start for New Orleans, it's only 911 miles - left to right - Jason Gray, Jessie Commeret-Medina, Will  Alexander and Graham Northup.  Brent Burington was unable to go due to illness.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007: Day one went quick and without any problems. 13 hours in a mini-van made for smooth sailing as Broad Street Young arrived safely at the First Presbyterian Church of New Orleans.  We did however, stop for dinner a mile from the church--Some good southern BBQ with greens, corn bread and mac n' cheese.  MMMMM-Good.

Simply to make this quick and as we are exhausted, we wanted you all to know how shocked we all were by the devastation still visible to us as we drove down I-10 into New Orleans. Tons of retail businesses in disrepair, huge apartments still untouched and mounds of trash can easily be seen on many streets. We look forward with anticipation as to how we will be used this week.  Whether helping repair things in this beautiful church or going out in the neighborhood to work on a house, we are extremely aware that we are needed here. Glad you are with us in spirit and prayers.

Talk to you you tomorrow-

peace-

Jessie, Will, Graham and Jason

Supplies - Jessie loading up the last into the mini-van before we took off this early this morning

Our sleeping arrangements for the week--the church sanctuary.  About 50 of us are staying in this church.  We think we have the best room :)
